Later that day, Adriano arrived in Monreale with his handpicked cosca members accompanying him. He arrived at Biscotti’s villa, which had been, many years before, the home of Don Calcedonio Umbretto and the very home where Adriano had been raised by his grandfather. Biscotti’s men welcomed Don Adriano outside the villa, along with the six cosca members Adriano had brought with him.

As his men unpacked the cars, Adriano introduced himself to each of Biscotti’s men, who kneeled and kissed his right hand. They thanked him profusely for coming to assist them. He promised he would flush out the enemy and bring war upon them.

It was not lost on Adriano that the last time he had stood in this spot was when his grandmother had kissed him goodbye before he departed to live with Don Spatuzza.

He walked to the front door and into the villa. He had not been back to this place since he was twelve years old. The images and sounds of his childhood and of his grandparents came flooding back to him.

His thoughts were interrupted when some of the household staff came up and introduced themselves. After the introductions, Adriano called Ferruccio over, who had just entered the villa. The household staff began to take Don Adriano’s luggage to his bedroom upstairs.

Ferruccio said, “This place is stunning.”

“It was once the home of one of the most powerful and great Dons Sicily has ever seen, Don Calcedonio Umbretto. Ferruccio, there is a dining room down the hall. Arrange a meeting with our men and Biscotti’s men in an hour.”

“Yes sir.”

“I’m going to unpack. See you in an hour.”

As Adriano began to walk up the stairs, he stopped momentarily and thought about Francesca and Giacomo. A smile came to his face as he thought about how his children would be together.

He continued up the stairs to his bedroom. He was back home.
